Summary: The Mainframe Lead role involves full life cycle development primarily using COBOL, with a focus on life insurance applications. The position requires strong troubleshooting skills, effective communication with users, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Candidates should have experience with various technologies and be able to document changes following the Systems Development Life Cycle process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide full life cycle development with COBOL
- Understand coding standards and implement them within code being developed
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and provide solutions
- Ability to communicate with the users to determine problems or design requirements
- Ability to work individually or on a team to complete programming projects in a timely manner
- Ability to document changes and follow the Systems Development Life Cycle process independently
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Application Development.
Key Skills:
- Lead development/configurations efforts and maintain Life applications Life Alpha & other interface (Eldorado, Print services, Agency, Accounting etc.) related changes.
- Build Prototypes, conduct POC to validate architectural decisions and demonstrate feasibility & mitigate risks early in the development process.
- Implement new enhancements to Life applications using COBOL, Easytrieve, JCL, VSAM, DB2, CICS & CICS Web services etc. in Mainframes and Distributed changes using Java, HTML, Javascript & JQuery.
- Develop / Enhance SOAP & CICS Web services to integrate Life applications with front-end interfaces iPipeline, Resonant, Lifebase etc.
- Trouble shoot issues reported by debugging COBOL code using Xpeditor, Abend-Aid & Data related issues using SQL studio, SPUFI, File-Aid, TSO/ISPF etc., distributed issues using Eclipse, SOAP-UI tools.
- Data model changes relevant to requirements and build onetime update jobs / SLAP processes to automate massive data changes.
- Conduct code reviews, resolve code conflicts and ensure right components / versions are used.
- Merge code to build environments, maintain code versions using TOPAZ/ISPW as version control tool.
- Ensure all requirements are coded & performance considerations meet Pekin coding standards.
