Mainframe DB2 Database Engineer

Summary: The Mainframe DB2 Database Engineer is responsible for ensuring the availability and recovery of DB2 databases, performing diagnostics and troubleshooting, and managing database reports. The role requires extensive experience with IBM System Z and DB2 utilities, along with performance tuning and problem resolution skills. The position is remote and focuses on long-term engagement. Additional skills in Java and web services are considered a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure DB2 availability and recovery strategies and procedures
• Diagnose and troubleshoot errors with performance tuning of SQL and processes
• Create and manage database reports
• Utilize IBM DB2 utilities and CA Tools for DB2
• Implement backup/recovery/logging facilities and strategies
• Manage DB2 database management and deployment
• Work with IBM CICS and batch COBOL
• Utilize IBM Information Management System
• Perform performance and capacity tuning of system parameters and resources
• Conduct problem analysis and resolution for technical and application-related issues

Key Skills:

• 10+ years IBM System Z experience
• Extensive knowledge of IBM DB2 utilities and CA Tools for DB2
• Experience with backup/recovery/logging facilities and strategies
• Strong grasp of DB2 database management and deployment
• Familiarity with IBM CICS and batch COBOL
• Knowledge of IBM Information Management System
• Experience in performance and capacity tuning
• Problem analysis and resolution skills
• Nice to have: Java, web services, SOA concepts, Application Management Services experience
