Summary: The Machine Learning Engineer role focuses on training AI models by producing high-quality reasoning data rather than traditional ML tasks like tuning hyperparameters. Candidates will tackle complex engineering problems and document their reasoning processes while working independently in a fully remote and flexible environment. This position requires a strong background in machine learning or software engineering and offers the opportunity to collaborate with leading AI research labs. The role is designed for those who can articulate complex reasoning and work methodically on open-ended technical tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tackle sophisticated ML and engineering problems while documenting your reasoning process in clear, structured logs
  • Record sequential decision-making workflows — how you strategize, select tools, and arrive at solutions
  • Produce high-quality training data that shows AI models how expert engineers approach complex technical challenges
  • Audit and refine AI-generated reasoning steps for logical soundness and technical accuracy
  • Demonstrate proficient tool selection and use across realistic problem scenarios
  • Work independently and asynchronously — entirely on your own schedule

Key Skills:

  • Professional background in Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Able to articulate complex reasoning clearly — you can explain not just what you did, but why
  • Strong critical thinker who can identify gaps or errors in logical workflows
  • Methodical and detail-oriented — you naturally document your thinking as you work
  • Comfortable working independently on open-ended technical tasks
  • Master's Degree or PhD in a relevant field
  • Experience with data annotation, data quality evaluation, or AI training pipelines (nice to have)
  • Prior work in AI research, model evaluation, or RLHF-adjacent projects (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with LLMs and how they're trained or fine-tuned (nice to have)
  • Background in applied ML, NLP, or reasoning systems (nice to have)

Detailed Description From Employer:

Machine Learning Engineer (AI Training)

About The Role

What if your machine learning expertise could directly shape how the next generation of AI systems reason, plan, and solve problems? We're looking for Machine Learning Engineers to help train cutting-edge AI models by demonstrating expert-level problem-solving — step by step, in real time. This isn't a typical ML role. You won't be tuning hyperparameters or deploying pipelines. Instead, you'll be producing the high-quality reasoning data that teaches AI models how to think like a skilled engineer — strategically, systematically, and reliably. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. Work on your own schedule, as much or as little as fits your life.
