Summary: The Locum Planning Lawyer will support a Local Authority in developing and progressing a Local Plan project on a remote, part-time basis. This role involves providing legal advice on planning applications, policy development, and litigation matters. The position is initially for six months with the possibility of extension, starting in June or July. The candidate will work closely with Planning Officers and senior stakeholders to ensure robust legal support for planning objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advising on issues relating to the Council’s Local Plan, including policy development and legal considerations
- Supporting Planning Officers and senior stakeholders with legal advice on planning applications and development matters
- Advising on general planning law matters, including planning policy, development management, and enforcement issues
- Providing pragmatic, solution-focused legal advice to support the Council’s planning objectives
- Advising on planning litigation and legal challenges relating to the Local Plan, including judicial reviews and appeals
- Assisting with preparing legal strategies and supporting the Council in defending planning decisions
Key Skills:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive (or equivalent) with strong experience in Planning Law
- Experience working within Local Government or the public sector is highly desirable
- Proven experience advising on Local Plans or large-scale planning policy projects
- Ability to work independently and engage effectively with a range of stakeholders

Venn Group’s specialist legal team are currently recruiting for a Locum Planning Lawyer to join a Local Authority on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a high-profile Local Plan project, working closely with Planning Officers to develop and progress a robust and defensible Local Plan through its critical stages.
The Role:
Working Arrangement: Part Time, 3 days a week max, Remote Working
Duration: Initial 6 months with potential extension thereafter
Rate: Up to £60 per hour umbrella (potentially up to £65 DOE)
Start: June/July
