Lead Platform Engineer - Remote - Outside IR35 - AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Platform

Job Description

You will take a leading role in delivering a large-scale cloud platform transformation, helping to build and evolve a modern Internal Developer Platform while driving engineering best practice across a multi-cloud environment.

Working within an Agile delivery team, you'll provide technical leadership whilst remaining hands-on, designing and implementing scalable cloud infrastructure, platform tooling and automation that enables development teams to build, deploy and operate services efficiently.

This role will see you leading work across AWS, Kubernetes, GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, observability, identity management and streaming platforms, whilst mentoring engineers, influencing technical direction and working closely with senior stakeholders to deliver enterprise-scale platform solutions.

Key Skills

• Extensive enterprise AWS experience, including designing and supporting multi-account environments
• Expert Terraform experience, developing reusable Infrastructure as Code modules
• Strong Kubernetes experience, particularly Amazon EKS and Helm
• Commercial GitOps experience using ArgoCD or Flux
• Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab or Bitbucket
• Strong knowledge of observability platforms including Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo and OpenTelemetry
• Experience with Apache Kafka, Amazon MSK, Kafka Connect and Debezium
• Strong understanding of identity platforms including Keycloak, AWS IAM Identity Center, Entra ID and Active Directory
• Experience building and enhancing Internal Developer Platforms, ideally using Backstage
• Proven technical leadership experience with the ability to mentor engineers and influence platform strategy
• Excellent stakeholder management and consultancy skills

Desirable Skills

• Experience with Apigee X or Apigee Edge
• Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience
• Cross-cloud networking and identity federation
• Python development and AI tooling including LangChain, LangGraph or Pydantic AI
• Tableau integration experience
• Active SC Clearance
