Summary: The Lead Data Engineer will be responsible for integrating data assets from a recently acquired company into the parent company's environment, focusing on large-scale data migrations and the establishment of data governance frameworks. This role requires extensive experience in data engineering, particularly with Azure cloud services, and the ability to manage complex data integration projects. The position is fully remote and offers a competitive daily rate outside of IR35. The ideal candidate should be able to start within a two-week notice period.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and execution of large-scale data migrations from acquired companies into the Azure ecosystem.
- Own the end-to-end ETL/ELT pipeline strategy, ensuring scalability, resilience, and automation.
- Partner with business, IT, and integration teams to map Legacy enterprise applications (ERP, CRM, HRIS, Finance, industry-specific platforms) into standardized data models.
- Drive data harmonization, deduplication, and master data management (MDM) to enable a single source of truth.
- Establish and enforce data governance, lineage, and quality frameworks across acquired datasets.
- Leverage Azure-native services such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, Data Lake, and Purview to build modern, cloud-first data pipelines.
- Act as a point of escalation for data integration issues and ensure rapid resolution in a fast-paced environment.
Key Skills:
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, including leading enterprise-scale migrations.
- Proven track record in Azure cloud data services (ADF, Synapse, Databricks, Data Lake, Purview, Event Hubs, Functions).
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Experience integrating 20+ enterprise systems such as SAP, Oracle, Dynamics 365, Salesforce, Workday, or ServiceNow.
- Deep understanding of ETL/ELT frameworks, data warehousing, and streaming architectures.
- Hands-on experience with data governance, compliance, and security (GDPR, HIPAA, SOX).
- Exceptional ability to communicate with business leaders, architects, and technical teams.
- Prior experience in M&A integration projects would be desirable.
