Summary: The Lead Azure Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing data solutions using Microsoft Azure technologies. This role requires strong communication skills and leadership experience to mentor a team of data professionals while collaborating with various stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data engineering, particularly with Azure Synapse, and will promote best practices within the team. This position is fully remote and classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement scalable, reliable, and efficient data solutions that meet enterprise-grade requirements
- Lead and mentor Data Engineers and Data Analysts to ensure delivery of high-quality work
- Establish and enforce best practices and standards across data integration and engineering activities
- Collaborate closely with architects, analysts, report developers, and business stakeholders to align technical solutions with business needs
- Act as a subject matter expert in ETL tools, data pipelines, and performance optimization techniques
- Provide strategic input into data architecture, data preparation, and modeling practices
- Stay current on emerging tools, technologies, and trends within cloud data ecosystems especially within Microsoft Azure
- Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the data team and across business units
- Ensure data reliability, integrity, and performance in an Agile development environment
- Help guide large-scale projects with a focus on scalability, security, and long-term sustainability
Key Skills:
- 5+ years of experience with SQL and working in a data engineering or similar data-focused role
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with ETL development and data integration tools
- Strong familiarity with Azure cloud services (Particularly Synapse) is required
- Experience with Agile delivery methodologies and Azure DevOps is a plus
- Industry background in automotive, finance, or other regulated sectors is a bonus
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across technical and non-technical teams
- Detail-oriented, curious, and committed to team success
