About Our Remote Working IT Support Contract Roles
What does a it support contractor do?
IT Support contractors are engaged to provide technical assistance to end users within an organisation, resolving hardware and software issues, supporting IT infrastructure, and maintaining the smooth operation of the desktop computing environment. The work typically covers first and second line support: diagnosing and resolving user-reported technical issues by telephone, remote session, or in person, managing user accounts and access permissions, provisioning and setting up new devices, handling software installation and updates, escalating complex issues to specialist teams, and maintaining accurate records of incidents and resolutions within the service desk system. IT Support contractors are brought in most commonly to manage staffing gaps, provide additional capacity during an IT project or office relocation, or support a device refresh programme.
The technical skills expected of IT Support contractors are practical and broad. Strong working knowledge of Windows 10 and 11 operating systems is a near-universal requirement, alongside proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
