Summary: This role is for an IT Network/Telecom Product Specialist focused on device validation, alarm configuration, and troubleshooting to ensure seamless integration of SNMP traps and alarms into the Spectrum system. The position requires collaboration with various teams to ensure accurate reporting and minimal service impact, along with research on hardware specifications and vendor interactions. The role is fully remote and spans a contract duration of 6 to 12 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and validate network equipment using internal tools
- Confirm if devices support SNMP traps and locate MIBs
- Conduct web searches and consult documentation for equipment specifications
- Review and rationalize alarms (type, severity, response)
- Change SNMP trap settings in lab environments
- Validate alarm reporting to Spectrum
- Perform basic IP networking tests (ping, telnet, traceroute)
- Use test sets to confirm trap configurations and alarm propagation
- Troubleshoot DNS issues using Infoblox or related systems
- Update node names and locations on production equipment
- Coordinate with Transport and Spectrum Teams for alarm integration
- Provide required MIBs to the Spectrum Team
- Escalate issues and create work orders or incident tickets

- 10+ years of experience in IT Network and Telecom Monitoring
- 5+ years of experience supporting Network Fault Management tools
- 5+ years of experience supporting Network Performance Management tools
- Experience with enterprise network monitoring systems, ideally Spectrum

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking an IT Network/Telecom Product Specialist (Network Engineer) for a 100 remote (PST) contract role - 6 to 12 months.
Summary:
This role involves device validation, alarm configuration, testing, troubleshooting - to ensure seamless integration of SNMP traps and alarms into the Spectrum system - and collaboration across teams (Transport and Spectrum teams) to ensure accurate reporting and minimal service impact. This may mean that this person will be doing the research on the current state hardware and work with the vendors to get specific criteria on how to alarm, set traps, etc. on a variety of hardware for Spectrum.
Device Research & Validation:
* Identify and validate network equipment using internal tools
* Confirm if devices support SNMP traps and locate MIBs (Management Information Bases)
* Conduct web searches and consult documentation to gather necessary equipment specifications
Alarm & SNMP Trap Configuration:
* Review and rationalize alarms (type, severity, response)
* Change SNMP trap settings in lab environments and ensure correct name, location, and trap destination settings
* Validate alarm reporting to Spectrum and ensure it is non-service-affecting
Testing & Troubleshooting:
* Perform basic IP networking tests (ping, telnet, traceroute)
* Use test sets to confirm trap configurations and alarm propagation
* Troubleshoot DNS issues using Infoblox or related DNS systems
* Update node names and locations on production equipment as needed
Cross-Team Collaboration:
* Coordinate with the Transport and Spectrum Teams to ensure successful alarm integration
* Provide required MIBs to the Spectrum Team and assist in validation
* Escalate issues and create work orders (WO) or incident tickets (INC) as required
REQUIREMENTS:
* 10+ years of overall experience related to IT Network and Telecom Monitoring in large enterprises: Supporting physical network and telecom hardware; Hands-on administration of network devices and configuration of network hardware and telecom hardware
* 5+ years of experience in directly supporting Network Fault Management tools in large enterprises
* 5+ years of experience in directly supporting Network Performance Management tools in large enterprises
* Experience with an enterprise network monitoring system - ideally Spectrum (others are Telenium, SolarWinds)
* Experience with SNMP traps and alarms and configuration/reporting
* Experience with Broadcom suite of tools is ideal: Broadcom (CA) DX NetOps solutions: Spectrum, PM, NFA for network system monitoring including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless and other Broadcom solutions: Infrastructure Manager (UIM) and AIOps (Operational Intelligence Dashboard) solutions
* Familiarity with Remedy - creating, working incident, change and work order tickets
* Familiarity with supporting monitoring tools for network solutions including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless
* Experience working with large telecom companies like AT&T, Verizon or others with a vast network infrastructure like Netflix
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
