InterSystems Health Connect integration engineer

Posted 2 weeks ago by Shrive Technologies LLC

We’re seeking an experienced InterSystems Health Connect integration engineer with deep expertise in FHIR (R4/R5) to design, implement, and support end-to-end healthcare interoperability solutions.

You’ll build robust integrations across EHRs, payers, HIEs, and ancillary systems using Health Connect productions (Business Services/Processes/Operations), Data Transformations (DTLs), Business Process Language (BPL), and adapters—bridging FHIR APIs with HL7 v2, C-CDA, and other standards.

This role combines hands-on development with solution architecture, security, and production support in a regulated healthcare environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Design & Build Integrations
  • Develop Health Connect productions leveraging EnsLib adapters (HTTP, MLLP, File, SOAP, JDBC, REST).
  • Implement FHIR-based workflows (read/search/$operations/subscriptions/bulk data) and translate to/from HL7 v2 (ADT/ORM/ORU/SIU), C-CDA, and JSON/XML payloads.
  • Create DTLs for message transformations and BPL for orchestration, routing, and error handling.
  • Implement SMART on FHIR and OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect flows; configure client credentials, PKCE, token introspection, and scope management.
  • Standards, Quality & Compliance
  • Map data using USCDI, LOINC, SNOMED CT, RxNorm, ICD-10, and terminology services.
  • Validate conformance with FHIR Implementation Guides (e.g., US Core, Payer, Da Vinci) using tooling (Inferno/Touchstone/Postman collections).
  • Author/maintain API specifications (OpenAPI/Swagger), message specs, and traceable mapping docs.
  • Ensure HIPAA, security-by-design, data minimization, and audit requirements (e.g., AuditEvent).
  • Operations & Reliability
  • Own deployments, monitoring, and support for Health Connect productions; build alerting/dashboards; perform root cause analysis and tuning (pools, message queues, persistent stores).
  • Implement retries, idempotency, and dead-letter strategies; manage schema changes and versioning.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for critical interfaces.
  • DevOps & SDLC
  • Use Git-based workflows, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and artifact versioning for productions and class code.
  • Containerize and deploy IRIS/HealthShare Health Connect on Docker/Kubernetes (or VM), parameterize environments, and manage secrets.
  • Write automated tests (unit/integration), generate realistic synthetic test data, and maintain runbooks and operational SOPs.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–7+ years building healthcare integrations with InterSystems Health Connect (or IRIS for Health/HealthShare), including:
  • Hands-on with Productions, DTL, BPL, Message Classes, Record Maps, and EnsLib adapters.
  • Strong FHIR R4 (R5 a plus): resources (Patient, Encounter, Observation, Condition, Medication*, AllergyIntolerance, Coverage), search params, bundles, transactions, subscriptions, and $bulk data.
  • Proficiency in HL7 v2.x (ADT, ORU, ORM, SIU), CDA/C-CDA, JSON/XML, and RESTful API design.
  • Authentication/Authorization: OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SMART on FHIR, JWT/JWS, mTLS.
  • Programming skills in ObjectScript and at least one of: Python, Java, JavaScript/Node.js, or .NET.
  • Experience with InterSystems Management Portal, Production configuration, Message Trace, and Visual Trace tooling.
  • Solid grasp of HIPAA, PHI handling, and secure integration patterns (TLS, secure endpoints, secrets management).
  • Version control (Git), issue tracking (Jira/Azure Boards), and CI/CD (Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions/GitLab).
  • Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, and stakeholder communication skills.
