Summary: The Interim Head of Finance will support a newly appointed CFO and Financial Controller in a high-growth outdoor/lifestyle business during a critical period. This fully remote role involves enhancing financial reporting, improving processes, and addressing compliance issues ahead of year-end. Key responsibilities include managing VAT work across Europe, supporting tax compliance, and driving finance transformation initiatives. The position requires a qualified accountant with a strong technical background and experience in fast-paced environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading on historic VAT work across multiple European jurisdictions, working closely with external advisors
  • Reviewing and reconciling VAT balances, ensuring accuracy across systems and filings
  • Mapping and improving VAT processes, including implementation of OSS registration
  • Supporting corporate and payroll tax compliance across international entities
  • Driving process mapping across finance, sales, and stock to ensure accurate revenue recognition and cost accounting
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to stock reconciliation processes and controls
  • Supporting the Financial Controller with year-end audit preparation and key reconciliations (including stock)
  • Contributing to month-end close and reporting, as well as broader project work across the finance function
  • Supporting on cashflow and working capital initiatives as required

Key Skills:

  • Qualified ACA / ACCA (or equivalent)
  • Strong technical accounting background, including audit, statutory reporting, and month-end close
  • Experience in a D2C, retail, or fast-growth stock-based environment
  • Proven experience in European VAT and broader compliance activities
  • Demonstrated capability in process mapping and driving operational improvements
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Able to balance getting into the detail with supporting wider strategic initiatives

Interim Head of Finance 6 Month Contract Fully Remote (occasional HQ travel) We’re supporting a high-growth, consumer-led business in the outdoor/lifestyle sector, looking to appoint an Interim Head of Finance to support a newly appointed CFO and Financial Controller during a critical period. This role will play a key part in strengthening financial reporting, improving processes, and addressing historic compliance matters ahead of year-end.

The Role You will take ownership across a broad remit spanning compliance, reporting, and finance transformation, including:

  • Leading on historic VAT work across multiple European jurisdictions, working closely with external advisors
  • Reviewing and reconciling VAT balances, ensuring accuracy across systems and filings
  • Mapping and improving VAT processes, including implementation of OSS registration
  • Supporting corporate and payroll tax compliance across international entities
