Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver the Statement of Accounts in compliance with the CIPFA Code of Practice and IFRS requirements.
- Produce and validate yearend working papers for all technical accounting areas underpinning the Statement of Accounts.
- Coordinate preclose and final closedown activities to meet statutory deadlines.
- Ensure compliance and audit readiness by creating a robust audit trail and responding to external auditor queries.
- Engage with internal stakeholders and external bodies to gather accurate yearend data and resolve technical accounting issues.
Key Skills:
- Qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent) with strong knowledge of the CIPFA Code of Practice and IFRS.
- Proven experience in preparing Statement of Accounts and supporting yearend closedown in a local authority setting.
- Technical expertise in capital accounting, pensions (IAS 19), and financial instruments.

A local government client of mine are currently on the lookout for a Closedown Support Accountant to join their team on a fully remote interim basis.
Contract Duration: 6 Months +
Rate: £350 - £400 per day (depending on experience)
Fully Remote
Start Date: Mid to Late January.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver the Statement of Accounts in compliance with the CIPFA Code of Practice and IFRS requirements, ensuring accuracy across all primary statements (Comprehensive Income & Expenditure, Movement in Reserves, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) and supporting notes.
- Produce and validate yearend working papers for all technical accounting areas underpinning the Statement of Accounts, including accruals, provisions, reserves movements, capital accounting, pensions (IAS 19), and financial instruments disclosures.
- Coordinate preclose and final closedown activities to meet statutory deadlines, including ledger reconciliations, year-end journals, and adjustments required for the draft and audited Statement of Accounts.
- Ensure compliance and audit readiness by creating a robust audit trail, responding to external auditor queries, and supporting Whole of Government Accounts (WGA) returns and related disclosures.
- Engage with internal stakeholders and external bodies to gather accurate yearend data, resolve technical accounting issues, and implement best practice improvements for future Statement of Accounts production.
Candidates Must:
