Role responsibilities
- Design accessible, user-centred interfaces for complex government digital services.
- Create and iterate prototypes using the GOV.UK Prototype Kit.
- Apply and contribute to patterns within the GOV.UK Design System.
- Translate user needs and research findings into effective interaction designs.
- Work closely with user researchers, service designers, product managers and developers.
- Test design concepts and refine solutions using evidence and stakeholder feedback.
- Communicate design decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ensure designs meet the Government Service Standard and accessibility requirements.
Key experience and requirements
- Strong experience working as an Interaction Designer within GDS-aligned teams.
- Practical experience using the GOV.UK Design System and GOV.UK Prototype Kit.
- Evidence of designing complex transactional or public-facing digital services.
- Strong prototyping skills, including HTML and CSS.
- Good understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive-design principles.
- Experience collaborating within agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams.
- Ability to use research evidence to inform and defend design decisions.
- Strong stakeholder-management, communication and design-playback skills.
