Detailed Description From Employer:

Our client, a large professional services firm, is looking to hire an Infrastructure Automation Consultant for a 375-hour remote contract. The consultant will be supporting a company in the Media & Entertainment industry who is actively pursuing a transition toward automated provisioning and enhanced observability across its infrastructure. There are current challenges with manual server builds, which are typically initiated through email or task-based systems, resulting in inconsistent and time-consuming processes. As part of their modernization efforts, there is strong interest in adopting Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform and shifting to Git-based workflows for managing infrastructure definitions.

The broader vision includes standardizing deployment templates, enabling request-driven provisioning through ticketing or self-service forms, and extending hybrid management capabilities via Azure Arc. Observability is also a key priority, with plans to phase out legacy monitoring tools such as Nagios in favor of more integrated solutions.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to assess current tools, workflows, and team readiness to establish baseline practices and access
  • Design end-to-end automation architecture, including module layout, CI/CD strategy, and toolchain integration
  • Build reusable Terraform modules, Packer templates, and Ansible playbooks with a focus on validation and reusability
  • Wrap infrastructure automation into pipelines and connect to ITSM for request-driven deployments
  • Deliver enablement sessions, runbooks, and annotated code to support long-term operational ownership
  • Define the automation architecture and toolchain integration plan
  • Establish naming, tagging, RBAC, and governance standards
  • Design reusable module layout and CI/CD patterns
  • Document approval models, validation strategy, and dependencies
  • Experience building reusable Terraform, Ansible, and Packer components
  • Experience validating infrastructure provisioning and image creation logic
  • Publish hardened base images to centralized gallery
  • Ability to perform functional testing and align with design intent
