Summary: The IMS DBA role is a long-term remote contract position requiring extensive experience in IMS DB/DC and mainframe technologies. The candidate will provide expert administration and support for IMS systems in a production environment, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery readiness. Responsibilities include database maintenance, troubleshooting, and collaboration with development teams. This position is W2-only and does not allow for third-party involvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert-level administration and support of IMS DB/DC systems in a large-scale production environment.
- Perform database maintenance, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Collaborate with application development teams to design and implement optimal database solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to database performance, availability, and reliability.
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness of IMS databases.
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide 24/7 production support as needed.
Key Skills:
- 5 to 7+ years of hands-on experience as an IMS DBA (IMS DB/DC is mandatory).
- 10+ years of total experience in Mainframe technologies.
- Solid command over PL/I, COBOL, DB2, JCL, CICS, and other z/OS mainframe components.
- Proven production support experience in critical enterprise environments.
- Must have worked on projects with demonstrable IMS experience; candidates with only DB2 or COBOL will not be considered.
- Strong communication and documentation skills for working with remote teams and stakeholders.
