Summary: We are seeking a senior z/OS Operating Systems Engineer to support and enhance a mission-critical IBM mainframe environment operating 24/7. The role emphasizes z/OS system administration, performance, availability, and modernization. The ideal candidate will ensure the stability, security, and efficiency of the mainframe while facilitating integration initiatives. This position is remote and limited to candidates located in the USA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade IBM z/OS operating systems
- Perform SMP/E maintenance, PTFs, fixes, and version upgrades
- Manage LPARs, system IPLs, and system recovery activities
- Monitor and tune system performance using RMF, SMF, OMEGAMON, and related tools
- Ensure high availability, system reliability, and disaster recovery readiness
- Support capacity planning and workload management (WLM)
- Administer system datasets, catalogs, and storage management (SMS)
- Collaborate with application, database, middleware, and infrastructure teams
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level issues
- Participate in change management, incident response, and root cause analysis
- Ensure compliance with security, audit, and regulatory standards
- Support modernization initiatives and integration with distributed platforms
Key Skills:
- 8+ years of hands-on experience as a z/OS Systems Programmer / OS Engineer
- Strong expertise in IBM z/OS internals and architecture
- Extensive experience with SMP/E, IPLs, and system maintenance
- Proficiency with JCL, ISPF, SDSF, and TSO
- Experience with performance management tools (RMF, SMF, OMEGAMON)
