As Employee Relations Specialist, you will join a busy HR Operations team and act as the subject matter expert for all ER matters across the business. This is a hands-on temporary role (initially 3-6 months) focused on delivering high-quality advice and managing a significant volume of employee relations cases from start to finish.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a large caseload of employee relations matters including disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance, probation and flexible working cases.
  • Leading complex case management activity, including cases that may result in dismissal.
  • Supporting and coaching managers to ensure employee relations issues are handled fairly, consistently and in line with employment legislation.
  • Providing expert guidance on complex absence management and working closely with Occupational Health providers.
  • Building strong relationships with managers and stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Designing and delivering training to improve management capability and confidence in handling ER matters.
  • Maintaining accurate case records, analysing trends and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Supporting policy reviews and wider HR projects as required.

This role is heavily focused on high-volume employee relations work, therefore previous experience managing a substantial ER caseload is essential.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

  • Previous experience as an HR Advisor, HR Officer, HR Business Partner, HRBP or Employee Relations Specialist.
  • Extensive employee relations experience, including managing a high volume of complex cases independently.
  • Proven expertise handling disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance, sickness absence and dismissal cases.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience coaching and influencing managers on challenging people matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • The ability to work autonomously and prioritise a busy and demanding caseload.
  • Experience of delivering manager training and supporting policy development.
  • Unionised environment experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Due to the nature of the assignment, candidates must be comfortable managing a significant ER workload from day one with minimal supervision.

What you'll get in return

  • Salary of £40,000-£45,000 pro rata.
  • Fully remote working.
  • Immediate start available.
  • Opportunity to work within a busy and supportive HR team.
  • Exposure to a wide range of complex employee relations matters.
  • Flexible temporary contract with an anticipated duration of up to 6 months.
  • A fantastic opportunity for an experienced HR professional looking for a challenging interim assignment.
