Hiring! AWS Infrastructure Architect with VMWare (VDI) & SAN Storage from Healthcare Domain Only

Posted 1 day ago by PropelSys Technologies LLC.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Architect/Leader to lead the design and modernization of complex on-premises and hybrid infrastructure environments.

This is an infrastructure architecture role first and a cloud role second.

Our environment is currently 90-95% on-premises, and we need an architect with deep, current expertise across compute, storage, virtualization, connectivity, VDI, resilience, and observability who can guide us through complex infrastructure migrations and shape a practical modernization roadmap.

This role is not a fit for candidates whose experience is primarily cloud-native or AWS-centric.

We need someone who has spent real time in the data center, understands legacy and hybrid systems at a deep technical level, and can bring cloud into the architecture as one part of a broader modernization strategy, not the starting point.

The role is weighted roughly 80% on-premises/hybrid infrastructure architecture and 20% AWS platform architecture, with a focus on serverless services supporting our ongoing modernization work.

What You Will Do

  • Architect and evolve infrastructure across compute, storage, virtualization, network connectivity, VDI, resilience/DR, and observability/instrumentation
  • Assess current-state on-premises and hybrid infrastructure and identify modernization opportunities grounded in business and technical constraints
  • Lead and support complex infrastructure migrations, including data center consolidations, platform upgrades, and phased on-premises-to-hybrid transitions
  • Develop infrastructure roadmaps and modernization strategies that sequence change realistically across legacy, hybrid, and cloud components
  • Define target-state architecture that incorporates cloud where it adds value, without treating cloud migration as the default outcome
  • Design and support AWS serverless components (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge) as part of the hybrid architecture, representing roughly 20% of the role
  • Establish standards for resilience, high availability, and disaster recovery across infrastructure domains
  • Build and mature observability and instrumentation practices across the infrastructure stack
  • Partner with security, network, and platform teams to ensure infrastructure designs meet compliance, performance, and reliability requirements
  • Act as a technical advisor to senior leadership, translating infrastructure decisions into business risk, cost, and timeline terms
  • Influence and align internal engineering teams and external service providers around a common infrastructure strategy
  • Document architecture decisions, standards, and reference designs for use across teams

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of infrastructure architecture experience, with substantial recent work in on-premises and hybrid environments, not solely cloud-native platforms
  • Deep working knowledge of compute, storage (SAN/NAS), virtualization platforms (VMware or equivalent), network connectivity, and VDI technologies
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting large, complex infrastructure migrations, ideally including data center or mainframe-adjacent environments
  • Strong understanding of resilience engineering, including high availability design and disaster recovery planning
  • Experience building or maturing observability and instrumentation capabilities across infrastructure layers
  • Working AWS platform architecture experience, particularly serverless services (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS/SNS), and how they integrate into a broader hybrid architecture
  • Proven ability to develop infrastructure roadmaps and modernization strategies that account for legacy constraints
  • Strong technical leadership skills, with a track record of influencing decisions across internal teams, external service providers, and senior stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present infrastructure strategy to both technical and executive audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare IT or another regulated industry with complex compliance requirements
  • Experience with mainframe or legacy platform environments as part of a modernization initiative
  • Relevant infrastructure or cloud certifications (e.g., VMware, ITIL, AWS/Azure architecture certifications)
  • Experience working with managed service providers or outsourced infrastructure partners
