Summary: The Head of Finance role is a hands-on, interim position focused on delivering a margin improvement plan while stabilizing the financial position of the organization. This role requires collaboration with operational leaders and the existing Head of Finance to support service transformation. The position is remote but requires regular stakeholder meetings. An immediate start is expected for this 6-month fixed-term contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide focused financial leadership to drive delivery of a margin improvement plan
  • Work alongside the existing Head of Finance, taking the lead on recovery-related initiatives
  • Partner with operational and service leaders to identify, quantify and execute savings and efficiency opportunities
  • Lead or support turnaround workstreams across workforce, non-pay, income and contracting areas
  • Provide robust financial modelling, challenge, and analysis to underpin decision-making and track progress
  • Develop and implement short-term controls and reporting processes to support financial grip
  • Provide clear, concise updates to Group Finance, operational leadership, and Executive stakeholders
  • Operate as a senior member of the finance leadership team, building strong working relationships with stakeholders
  • Contribute to the overall financial governance and improvement of the services

Key Skills:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Minimum 8 years post-qualified experience, ideally in senior finance or turnaround roles
  • Experience of financial recovery, transformation, or turnaround in complex, multi-site environments
  • Strong analytical skills and commercial acumen
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • NHS or healthcare sector experience is beneficial but not essential
  • Resilient, delivery-focused and comfortable operating at pace in a hands-on role

Head of Finance

Location: Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire

Flexible/Remote

6-month Fixed Term Contract.

Weekly contractual hours 37.5.

£80,000 - £90,000 DOE (annual salary)

Reporting to: Group Finance Director.

Head of Finance role purpose: To lead and deliver a targeted margin improvement plan, working closely with the existing Head of Finance and operational leaders. The role is a hands-on, outcomes-focused interim post intended to stabilise and improve the financial position, while supporting longer-term service transformation. This is a remote role, but you will be required to meet with stakeholders several times per month. Immediate start.

Key Responsibilities of Head of Finance:

  • Provide focused financial leadership to drive delivery of a margin improvement plan
  • Work alongside the existing Head of Finance, taking the lead on recovery-related initiatives to allow the wider team to focus on BAU and transformation priorities
  • Partner with operational and service leaders to identify, quantify and execute savings and efficiency opportunities
  • Lead or support turnaround workstreams across workforce, non-pay, income and contracting areas
  • Provide robust financial modelling, challenge, and analysis to underpin decision-making and track progress
  • Develop and implement short-term controls and reporting processes to support financial grip
  • Provide clear, concise updates to Group Finance, operational leadership, and Executive stakeholders
  • Operate as a senior member of the finance leadership team, building strong working relationships with stakeholders across finance, operations and transformation
  • Contribute to the overall financial governance and improvement of the services, supporting any audit, assurance, or commercial engagement needs that arise

Head of Finance requirements:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Minimum 8 years post-qualified experience, ideally in senior finance or turnaround roles
  • Experience of financial recovery, transformation, or turnaround in complex, multi-site environments
  • Strong analytical skills and commercial acumen with the ability to identify and execute on margin improvement opportunities
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively with non-finance stakeholders
  • NHS or healthcare sector experience is beneficial but not essential
