Summary: The Head of Data Engineering & Architecture is a leadership role focused on delivering scalable data solutions for a major public sector organization. This position involves defining the data engineering strategy, overseeing technical delivery, and driving innovation across data platforms and analytics. The role requires collaboration with senior stakeholders and the ability to influence outcomes through effective communication and leadership. The position is remote with occasional travel and has an initial contract term of three months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and delivery of enterprise data platforms, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with business goals
- Oversee teams across Data Engineering, Architecture, Analytics, and Science
- Champion innovation and continuous improvement across all data delivery streams
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders to deliver impactful, data-driven outcomes
- Shape the roadmap for scalable, secure, and high-performing data ecosystems
Key Skills:
- Hands-on experience with Python, PySpark, SQL
- Knowledge of technologies such as Spark, Airflow
- Experience with AWS services including API Gateway, Lambda, Redshift, Glue, CloudWatch
- Strong leadership skills and excellent communication abilities
- Experience in a client-facing, consulting environment

In this role, you’ll define and execute the data engineering strategy, oversee technical delivery across multiple streams, and drive innovation in data platforms, architecture, and analytics.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the design and delivery of enterprise data platforms, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with business goals

Technical Expertise
This role extends beyond any single tech stack — you’ll be empowered to design solutions using the most appropriate technologies, deploying final implementations on AWS. You’ll bring hands-on depth and knowledge in:
- Languages: Python, PySpark, SQL
- Technologies: Spark, Airflow
- Cloud: AWS (API Gateway, Lambda, Redshift, Glue, CloudWatch, etc.)
- Data Pipelines: Designing and building modern, cloud-native pipelines using AWS services
In addition, you will require strong leadership skills and excellent communication abilities, with the capacity to influence and engage with client stakeholders. Experience in a client-facing, consulting environment is preferred.
