Summary: The Hashicorp Vault Consultant role involves designing and implementing Vault solutions, configuring Vault instances, and collaborating with development teams to integrate Vault into CI/CD pipelines. The consultant will also implement security controls within the IBM Cloud environment and advocate for new features related to Vault and cloud security. This position requires a deep understanding of HashiCorp Vault and related technologies, along with strong communication and collaboration skills. Key Responsibilities:
- Designing and implementing Vault solutions, including namespaces, secret engines, and authentication methods.
- Configuring and maintaining Vault instances for various applications and platforms, including IBM Cloud services like Ceph Object Gateway.
- Collaborating with development teams to integrate Vault into CI/CD pipelines and applications.
- Participating in an on-call rotation for production issues related to Vault availability and performance.
- Implementing security controls at various layers (Kubernetes, infrastructure, etc.) within the IBM Cloud environment, potentially using Vault.
- Working with HashiCorp Boundary to secure user access across dynamic environments.
- Developing and advocating for new features and enhancements related to Vault and cloud security.
Key Skills:
- Deep understanding of HashiCorp Vault, including its architecture, features, and various secret engines (e.g., Key/Value, Transit).
- Familiarity with major cloud platforms (including IBM Cloud) and experience working with distributed systems, microservices, and containers.
- Proficiency in languages like Go (often used for backend development at HashiCorp) and scripting for automation (e.g., Bash, Python).
- Strong grasp of security concepts, including IAM, OIDC/JWT/OAuth, Certificate Authorities, and cryptography.
- Ability to debug complex technical problems, perform root cause analysis, and provide effective solutions.
