Summary: The Virginia Department of Elections is seeking a Senior GIS Systems Architect to lead the implementation of ArcGIS Enterprise. This role requires extensive expertise in the ArcGIS platform, focusing on designing and configuring a multi-environment GIS architecture. The architect will also provide technical leadership and support for GIS analysts while ensuring data integrity and interoperability. The position is remote and classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define system architecture, networking, and storage configurations for ArcGIS Enterprise instances.
- Review licensing and hardware requirements for Staging and Production ArcGIS Enterprise instances.
- Define backup and disaster recovery strategies for ArcGIS Enterprise instances.
- Perform installation and initial configuration of ArcGIS Enterprise on Commonwealth servers.
- Create and maintain detailed logical ArcGIS Enterprise design diagrams.
- Design and manage geospatial data infrastructure.
- Automate deployment and maintenance of GIS environments using scripting tools.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to GIS analysts.
- Develop and optimize geospatial databases, services, and applications.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in GIS architecture and deployment, preferably in Microsoft/Azure environments.
- Proven experience designing and deploying ArcGIS Enterprise in multi-environment configurations.
- Proficiency in DNS, port assignment, and firewall policy management related to ArcGIS.
- Proficiency using Python (ArcPy, Pandas) and SQL for ArcGIS management and automation.
- Demonstrated experience with geodatabase design and spatial analysis.
- Familiarity with GIS web services (REST, SOAP) and APIs.
- Familiarity with Esri's current licensing and user type structure for ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- ESRI-certified Enterprise System Design Professional (ESDP2201) is highly desired.
- Familiarity using System Designer, ArcGIS Monitor, System Log Parser, and eGDB Health is highly desired.
- Experience with DevOps practices for GIS application deployment is highly desired.
