Position Summary
The Functional Mapping Architect is responsible for assessing and documenting enterprise EDI and integration platforms, including mapping frameworks, trading partner onboarding, business rules, and end-to-end transaction processing. The role works closely with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, architects, and engineering teams to understand current-state capabilities, identify knowledge gaps and technical debt, and provide recommendations for future-state modernization and integration improvements.
Key Responsibilities: Current-State Assessment
- Assess enterprise EDI mapping frameworks, integration architecture, and functional capabilities.
- Document end-to-end EDI transaction flows, mapping processes, and business workflows.
- Analyze trading partner onboarding, configuration, and mapping lifecycle.
- Identify dependencies across integration platforms, scheduling services, APIs, databases, and backend applications.
- Review mapping standards, validation rules, routing logic, acknowledgements, and partner-specific processing.
- Conduct workshops and technical interviews with business and technical stakeholders.
- Capture undocumented business processes, operational workflows, and system knowledge.
- Develop architecture diagrams, workflow documentation, and integration process maps.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive knowledge repository.
- Identify technical debt, architectural gaps, operational risks, and maintainability challenges.
- Evaluate mapping governance, deployment processes, version management, and support models.
- Recommend opportunities to simplify, standardize, and modernize integration and mapping capabilities.
- Contribute to future-state architecture and modernization recommendations.
- Partner with Solution Architects, Technical Architects, Business Analysts, Product Owners, and Engineering teams.
- Support knowledge transfer activities for implementation teams.
- Present assessment findings, recommendations, and architecture documentation to stakeholders.
- 8–10+ years of experience in enterprise EDI, system integration, or mapping architecture.
- Strong knowledge of ANSI X12, EDIFACT, XML, JSON, flat-file, and API-based integrations.
- Experience with enterprise integration and mapping platforms such as IBM Sterling, BizTalk, Boomi, MuleSoft, OpenText, Seeburger, Cleo, webMethods, or similar solutions.
- Deep understanding of trading partner onboarding, EDI transaction processing, mapping lifecycle, and integration architecture.
- Experience analyzing and documenting complex legacy systems and business workflows.
- Strong analytical, facilitation, stakeholder management, and technical documentation skills.
- Experience with supply chain, retail, manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, or financial services integrations.
- Familiarity with cloud integration platforms and API management solutions.
- Understanding of event-driven architecture and enterprise integration patterns.
- Experience supporting application modernization or digital transformation initiatives.
