Full Stack Developer (Java/Node.js)

Overview

We are seeking experienced Full Stack Developers with strong Java and Node.js expertise to join a high-profile digital transformation programme. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable applications within an agile delivery environment, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, high-quality solutions.

This role is ideal for developers who are comfortable working across the full technology stack and have experience building cloud-native applications in modern engineering environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain full-stack applications using Java and Node.js.
  • Develop and consume RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, DevOps Engineers, and QA teams.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application issues across development, test, and production environments.
  • Contribute to technical design discussions and architectural decisions.
  • Ensure solutions meet security, performance, and scalability requirements.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience developing applications with Java (Spring Boot preferred).
  • Strong experience with Node.js and modern JavaScript/TypeScript development.
  • Experience developing responsive Front End applications using frameworks such as:
  • React
  • Angular
  • Vue.js
  • Strong understanding of:
  • REST APIs
  • Microservices architecture
  • Event-driven systems
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as:
  • AWS
  • Azure
  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices.
  • Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong understanding of Agile delivery methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
  • Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.

Desirable Skills

  • Government, public sector, or highly regulated environment experience.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases.
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.).
  • Messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or ActiveMQ.
  • Security-focused development experience.
  • Exposure to DevSecOps practices.

Engagement Details

  • Day Rate: £500 per day (Inside IR35)
  • Location: Initially one day per month onsite in Newcastle, transitioning to fully remote.
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Contract Length: 6 Month
