Summary: The Front-End Developer (React) role involves joining a delivery team to build secure and accessible digital services. The position requires strong expertise in React and modern JavaScript, focusing on developing high-quality user interfaces in an agile environment. The developer will collaborate with various teams to ensure optimal performance and accessibility of applications. This contract runs from April to November and includes some travel to Leeds.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain modern front-end applications using React and JavaScript
- Translate Figma designs, wireframes, and design tokens into accessible, responsive interfaces
- Build secure, scalable single-page applications (SPAs) or progressive web apps (PWAs)
- Collaborate with UX, product, and development teams to deliver high-quality digital services
- Write and maintain automated tests and contribute to quality assurance processes
- Optimise front-end performance through code splitting, lazy loading, and bundle optimisation
- Integrate with RESTful or GraphQL APIs
- Contribute to agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
Key Skills:
- Strong experience with modern JavaScript (ES6+)
- Proven experience building applications using React
- Excellent knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, responsive design, and CSS Grid
- Experience developing accessible interfaces aligned to WCAG 2.2 AA standards
- Familiarity with front-end testing tools such as Cypress or Playwright
- Experience with Git-based version control
- Experience using modern build tools such as Vite
- Strong understanding of front-end security considerations
- Experience integrating with REST or GraphQL APIs
- Additional Experience (Desirable): Experience working within the public sector
- Knowledge of TypeScript
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps collaboration
- Familiarity with design systems and component-based architecture
- Experience with Tailwind CSS or CSS-in-JS approaches
- Awareness of Dynamics and third-party integrations
