Summary: The Front End Developer will play a crucial role in leading the development of client websites, focusing on a significant brand refresh and the integration of multiple sites into a cohesive digital ecosystem using Drupal/Acquia Site Studio. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and mentoring of junior developers, ensuring a user-centered web experience. The role is remote with monthly travel to Warwick or London and has a duration of 12 months with potential extensions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement responsive, accessible, and user-friendly web interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Drupal/Acquia Site Studio.
- Build reusable and scalable components that align with design and brand standards.
- Work with QA/test teams to ensure defect-free deployments.
- Write, refine, and progress JIRA tickets effectively.
- Maintain and optimise existing Front End components and functionality.
- Translate UX/UI designs into high-quality, interactive applications.
- Optimise performance, scalability, and availability of Front End code.
- Perform code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Front End bugs and issues.
- Keep current with evolving technologies and web development best practices.
- Contribute to system documentation and technical design notes.
- Support deployment, monitoring, and performance of Front End applications.
- Work within an Agile SCRUM framework and be open to receiving training if needed.
Key Skills:
- Proven experience using Acquia Site Studio or the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- 5+ years of Front End development experience with strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, jQuery, SQL, and modern JavaScript.
- Experience with Docker and containerised development workflows.
- Expertise in Sass and Twig for templating and styling.
- Solid understanding of mobile-first and responsive design principles.
- Full-stack experience with Drupal.
- 2+ years of Agile product team experience (ideally SCRUM), including working with JIRA.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across development, content, design, and stakeholder teams.
- Proactive, adaptable, and capable of thriving in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to participate in storm/emergency response (US-focused) and potentially attend UK out-of-hours response meetings.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Web Development, etc.)
