Freelance Technical Writer – Academic Publications in Sci-Tech

Location: Remote (EU-based preferred)
Hours: Approx. 10–15 hours/week, starting immediately

Our team of language professionals, editors and strategists works together to create meaningful stories—especially when those stories involve complex topics and specialized audiences. We’re currently partnering with a client in the higher education sector to strengthen its academic presence. Our goal is to help our client establish a leading position in research and innovation within the fields of Science & Technology. As part of this initiative, we’re looking for experienced technical writers with strong academic and editorial backgrounds to join our freelance team. This freelance role is ideal for specialized linguists who are adept at translating complex research into compelling, high-level content. About the Project
This project is designed to highlight our client and its researchers, faculty and partners as thought leaders in academic research, transformative technologies and scientific breakthroughs. The project will generate content tied to key pillars:
The Future: Emerging technologies such as: quantum computing, decentralized AI, and synthetic biology
Breakthrough Applications: Scalable, world-changing tech solutions
Leaders of Change: Focus on how our client is shaping innovation and making global impact
Content formats can include:
Longform academic research articles and thought leadership pieces
Whitepapers and research briefs
Interview-based stories and profiles
News-style articles and editorials
Video scripts and multimedia content (e.g., explainers, mini-documentaries)
Topics could range from AI in healthcare and quantum computing to synthetic biology, digital twins, decentralized finance, brain-computer interfaces, and much more. Writers must be adept at interviewing experts, digesting technical material and producing clean, engaging content.

Main Responsibilities
Research and write approximately four in-depth articles per month on cutting-edge topics in science and technology
Tailor writing to fit institutional branding, editorial tone and academic publishing standards
Collaborate closely with internal project managers, editors and university stakeholders
Ensure accuracy, clarity and relevance for both academic and general audiences

Requirements
Proven experience writing about STEM or technology-focused academic topics
Ability to synthesize complex material into engaging, accessible and high-quality content
Strong interviewing and information-gathering skills
Native English; other languages (especially Spanish) are a plus
Experience with institutional or research-based writing preferred (e.g. universities, think tanks, scientific journals)
Self-motivated, detail-oriented and reliable under deadlines
Familiarity with editorial workflows and cloud-based tools
