Freelance ESG & Sustainability Consultant (Outside IR35)

UK / EU -based | Project & client-led work | Initial 6-month engagement I am building a small, high-calibre team of freelance sustainability consultants to support a major new B2B ESG software platform currently in development. The platform is designed to help businesses track, manage and improve their ESG performance , and is the next product in a fast-growing suite created by the team behind a highly successful employee carbon footprint platform. The work is being delivered for a global household-name group , operating across sectors including automotive, insurance, banking and manufacturing. This is an outside IR35 role, working directly with end-clients and representing both the platform and its underlying ESG methodology.

The opportunity We are not looking for ad hoc or transactional consulting . We are building long-term, trusted consultant–client relationships , where consultants are an embedded and valued part of the product and service lifecycle , rather than short-term delivery resources. Work will be: Client-based (supporting organisations over time), and/or Project-based , with projects typically running for several months and often evolving into longer-term programmes. The emphasis is on continuity, trust and depth, both with clients and within the consulting team.

What you will be doing You will work directly with clients to: Diagnose where organisations are in their sustainability journey Support the sales team with pre-sales activity , including scoping and proposals Deliver and review carbon footprint calculations Develop decarbonisation pathways and transition plans Build or refine ESG strategies, policies and improvement roadmaps Identify relevant regulatory and voluntary sustainability obligations like CSRD and UK SRS Work with client teams to implement ESG improvement plans Contribute to workshops, senior stakeholder sessions and board presentations Feed real-world insight into the ongoing development of the ESG platform This is a hands-on, client-facing consulting role , with influence over both delivery and product direction.

How we work with clients You must be comfortable: Managing multiple projects or clients in parallel Balancing delivery without compromising quality Making each client feel fully supported , responsive to their needs and confident they have your attention Strong organisation, communication and prioritisation skills are essential.
