Key Responsibilities:
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping records
- Preparing monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and runway analysis for leadership and investors
- Burn rate and budget vs actual analysis
- Advising on tax efficiency, allowable expenses, and financial planning
- Submitting VAT returns quarterly via Making Tax Digital (MTD)
- Managing PAYE and payroll submissions via RTI
- Filing annual accounts and corporation tax returns with HMRC and Companies House
- Supporting preparation of UK R&D tax credit claims and related documentation
- Preparing financial statements and reports suitable for seed funding due diligence
- Organising financial documentation and supporting virtual data room preparation for investors
- Maintaining accurate shareholder records, cap table models, vesting schedules, and equity documentation
- Supporting implementation of financial controls, governance processes, and investor-grade operational practices
- Ensuring full regulatory compliance as a UK limited company
- Advising on EMI option schemes and dilution modelling as the team grows
Key Skills:
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of UK tax law, HMRC compliance, and Companies House requirements
- Experience working with early-stage or seed-stage startups
- Familiarity with UK R&D tax credit claims — experience with deep-tech, AI, or robotics companies is a strong plus
- Proficiency in cloud accounting software (Xero preferred)
- Experience with cap table management, share registers, and equity documentation
- Understanding of investor due diligence and data room preparation
- Ability to work independently and remotely with minimal supervision
