Fiber/OTDR Test Engineer (REMOTE)

Summary: This role is for a Fiber/OTDR Test Engineer on a 1-year contract with a significant travel requirement across the U.S. The position demands extensive experience in fiber characterization and testing, particularly with OTDR equipment. Candidates will be responsible for testing optical fiber paths and ensuring connectivity while managing project documentation and vendor interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Traveling on Monday and working with another in the field doing fiber characterization work.
• Traveling for 2 weeks and returning for one weekend.
• Reimbursed for hotels and rental cars; candidates will log into a portal.
• $50 per diem for meals, as well as fuel and baggage.
• Testing the end-to-end connectivity of optical fiber paths using multiple testing apparatus.
• Maintaining project schedules and performing fiber characterization tests.
• Splicing or re-splicing problematic fiber strands using industry-standard fusion splicers.
• Providing field analysis on vendor's fiber network from test data.
• Preparing testing packages and managing project field documentation.
• Performing site surveys to validate vendor infrastructure deliverables.

Key Skills:

• Extensive OTDR experience.
• 3-5+ years of experience in a Telecom Network Infrastructure environment.
• Strong experience analyzing OTDR traces, OIL data, and CD/PMD data.
• Ability to describe the details and structure of ISP and OSP Fiber Networks.
• Fusion splicing using industry-standard equipment.
• Understanding of various fiber types.
• High-level analytical skills.
• Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
• Familiarity with EXFO Toolbox or similar software applications.
• Minimum of two years in a project management or project support capacity.
