Summary: This role is for a Fiber/OTDR Engineer on a 12-month remote contract, focusing on documenting and managing fiber optic network assets for both inside and outside plant operations. The position requires a blend of technical skills in fiber optics and telecommunications, along with strong analytical and communication abilities. The engineer will utilize various software tools to validate and interpret network data, ensuring accuracy in fiber optic documentation and design. Candidates must have relevant experience or education in the telecommunications field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Documents, edits, and modifies records of fiber optic network assets for inside plant and outside plant operations using fiber optic network software.
- Uses research and analysis of network orders, diagrams, fiber optic route documentation, and customer databases for verification and validation of customer fiber optic network asset records.
- Evaluates fiber optic design issues by studying project concepts, objectives, priorities, and requirements.
- Responsible for gathering, reviewing, and interpreting various data sources for comparison and validation of fiber optic networks.
- Validates design drawings by identifying, isolating, and resolving performance problems related to data entry within fiber optic network software.
- Uses related industry software including MapInfo, AutoCAD (preferred but not required), Visio, Google Earth/Maps, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Researches and validates building addresses and coordinates using Google Earth/Maps to ensure proper location identification and create building footprints using fiber optic network software.
- Demonstrates understanding of databases, queries, spreadsheets, and schematic drawings.
- Proficient in reading and understanding dark fiber contracts, with the ability to interpret and act on contractual terms.
- Possesses a deep understanding of interconnectivity requirements within carrier hotels, including physical interfaces, cable types, fiber types, connector types, and riser details.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of GIS and AutoCAD is a plus but not required.
