Summary: The F5 Subject Matter Expert (SME) will lead the deployment of F5 BIG-IP solutions and serve as a train-the-trainer resource for internal teams. This role demands extensive hands-on technical expertise in F5 technologies, particularly in a VMware Hypervisor environment, along with strong communication skills for effective training and mentoring. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing training programs, technical documentation, and supporting complex F5 deployments. This position is fully remote and classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver train-the-trainer programs for engineering and operations teams
- Create technical documentation, runbooks, labs, and deployment guides
- Lead hands-on workshops, architecture reviews, and troubleshooting sessions
- Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) and configuration standards
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on F5 best practices
- Serve as the escalation point for complex F5 issues
- Design, deploy, and support F5 BIG-IP solutions including: LTM, DNS/GTM, ASM/Advanced WAF, APM
- Implement high availability, failover, and disaster recovery configurations
- Perform application migrations (F5 on hardware -> F5 on VMware)
- Configure SSL offload, SSL inspection, and certificate management
- Tune traffic profiles for performance, security, and scalability
- Deploy F5 Virtual Editions (VE) in on-prem environments
Key Skills:
- 8+ years of hands-on experience with F5 BIG-IP
- Expert-level knowledge of LTM and at least two of the following: DNS/GTM, ASM/Advanced WAF, APM
- Strong experience with enterprise F5 deployments and migrations
- Proven experience training engineers or trainers
- Deep understanding of: TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, SSL
- Load balancing and application delivery concepts
- Strong documentation and presentation skills
- F5 Certifications: F5-CA, F5-CTS LTM, DNS, ASM, or Cloud (preferred)
- Experience with: NGINX Plus / NGINX App Protect, F5 Distributed Cloud (XC), AppViewX, Kubernetes / OpenShift (preferred)
- Background in financial services, Insurance, or large enterprises (preferred)
- Strong communicator and technical educator
- Ability to translate complex topics into clear training content
