Summary: The role of Environmental Engineering - AI Data Trainer involves leveraging expertise in environmental engineering to train and evaluate AI models on complex topics such as water treatment and air quality management. The position requires crafting advanced engineering scenarios, authoring technical solutions, auditing AI outputs for accuracy, and improving AI reasoning. This is a unique opportunity to influence AI development while remaining within the environmental engineering field. The role is fully remote with flexible hours ranging from 10 to 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Complex Problems — Craft advanced environmental engineering scenarios covering contaminant transport, mass balance in treatment plants, hydrology, Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), and more
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions — including chemical dosage calculations, hydraulic flow models, and pollutant dispersion simulations — that serve as reference-quality benchmarks
  • Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated remediation plans, environmental impact statements, and mathematical proofs for technical accuracy, regulatory adherence (EPA, ISO 14001), and safety
  • Improve AI Reasoning — Identify logical flaws in AI responses and provide structured feedback to correct model behavior

Key Skills:

  • Pursuing or completed a Master's or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (environmental focus), or a closely related discipline
  • Strong foundational expertise in at least one of: aquatic chemistry, wastewater process design, air quality engineering, or hazardous waste remediation
  • Able to communicate complex technical and ecological concepts clearly and precisely in writing
  • Detail-oriented with a high standard for accuracy — unit conversions, chemical equations, and regulatory logic all matter here
  • No prior AI experience required — your engineering knowledge is what we need
  • Experience with data annotation, quality assurance, or evaluation workflows (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with environmental modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, SWMM, or similar) (nice to have)
  • Background in EHS compliance or environmental consulting (nice to have)

Detailed Description From Employer:

Environmental Engineering — AI Data Trainer

About The Role

AI is rapidly advancing into highly technical domains — and we need real experts to make sure it gets things right. We're looking for environmental engineers to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models on topics like water treatment, air quality management, and hazardous waste remediation. Your domain knowledge will directly shape how AI reasons through complex environmental problems — from contaminant transport to regulatory compliance. This is a rare opportunity to influence AI development from the inside, without leaving your field.

Organization: Alignerr

Type: Hourly Contract

Location: Remote

Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design Complex Problems — Craft advanced environmental engineering scenarios covering contaminant transport, mass balance in treatment plants, hydrology, Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), and more
