Summary: The End User Computer Engineer role is a remote-based position focused on overseeing the building and maintenance of Windows 10/11 images within a leading Defence organization in the UK. The role requires collaboration with teams to develop solutions and ensure desktop performance while adhering to IT security policies. Candidates may need to attend local sites if performance issues arise. This position is initially offered as a 12-month contract and falls under inside IR35 regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the end-to-end process for building and maintaining Windows 10/11 images. Create and develop best practices and procedures for Windows.
  • Provide support for IM&T Infrastructure, including networks, Linux, and Windows systems and applications.
  • Maximize desktop performance by monitoring, troubleshooting, and scheduling upgrades.
  • Undertake fault investigations in local and remote environments using multiple information sources.
  • Secure Windows systems by establishing and enforcing policies, defining, and monitoring access; support and administer Firewall and switched network environments in line with IT security policies.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop solutions approved by Architecture and deployed into through-life support.
  • Research problems and issues, gather information from various sources, and review defects on platforms or assemblies to fully understand and resolve problems.

Key Skills:

  • Proficient in VMware (vCenter/ESXi, Horizon, App Volumes).
  • Expertise in Windows 10, Windows 11, and VMware Horizon.
  • Strong understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, etc.
  • Experience in security hardening (CIS benchmarks).
  • Familiarity with automation tools (eg, PowerShell, Packer).

Salary (Rate): £67.47 Hourly

End User Computer Engineer

Remote based role

67.47 per hour Umbrella Inside IR35

12 Month Contract initially.

This is a great opportunity to work within one of the UK's leading Defence organisations mainly remote work however, if the manager feels work is slipping the candidate will be asked to attend most local site to them.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with HashiCorp tools (Packer, Terraform), and Scripting languages (Python).
  • Working knowledge of Bamboo/Bitbucket.
  • Experience with Confluence/Jira.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux systems.
  • Knowledge of NGINX/Apache, Antivirus Tools (eg, Trellix/SEP), Tanium, and Backup/BCP/DR strategies.
