We are seeking an experienced Dynamics 365 Business Central consultant to lead the accounting/financial implementation for a mid-market manufacturing/energy-sector client.
The engagement includes legacy financial data migration from an IBM Power 8 / System 36 (AS/400-class) environment and a parallel-run period with the legacy system before final cutover.
Business Central will go live after Dynamics 365 HR, on a separate but coordinated track.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure Dynamics 365 Business Central (Essentials): chart of accounts, dimensions/cost centers, posting setup, customers/vendors, and core financial processes (GL, AP, AR, banking/reconciliation)
- Analyze and map legacy financial data exports from an IBM Power 8 / System 36 (green-screen) environment — raw text/delimited files — into Business Central's data structures
- Scope and support conversion of historical financial data (several years of history under discussion; exact depth TBD) and open items/balances
- Support trial data conversion, reconciliation, and user acceptance testing (UAT)
- Lead the parallel-run period between the legacy system and Business Central prior to production cutover, working closely with client Finance stakeholders
- Partner with the D365 HR consultant/team on the Business Central side of the HR BC integration (cost centers/dimensions, payroll-related GL entries)
- Evaluate and potentially scope spare-parts inventory functionality (currently pending client decision — may be a later phase)
- Produce SOPs and lead administrator knowledge transfer for Finance stakeholders
- Collaborate directly with client-side Finance/IT stakeholders and a legacy-system subject matter expert during discovery and delivery
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years hands-on implementation experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (functional or techno-functional)
- Experience with legacy/green-screen (AS/400, IBM i, System 36/38) data extraction and migration into modern ERP platforms
- Strong understanding of core accounting processes (GL, AP, AR, cost center/dimension structures, fixed assets)
- Experience supporting parallel-run/cutover periods and reconciliation between legacy and new financial systems
- Comfortable working directly with Finance stakeholders during discovery and requirements gathering
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing, energy, or utility-sector environments
- Experience with inventory/costing modules in Business Central
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365/Azure tenant architecture
- Microsoft certification in Dynamics 365 Business Central
Engagement Details
- Remote with flexibility for occasional client workshops
- Target timeline: Business Central availability ~Q1 2027, accounting cutover ~mid-2027 (subject to discovery findings)
- Coordinates with a separate D365 HR consultant on integration scope
