Summary: The DevOps Engineer role involves providing technical support and leadership in developing and delivering cloud technology solutions to meet business needs. The position requires expertise in managing cloud infrastructure, optimizing development processes, and ensuring information security. The engineer will collaborate with developers and users to design, implement, and support systems while focusing on user needs and security considerations. This is a contract position for six months, based in the UK and offered remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage availability and capacity, ensuring standards and procedures are implemented effectively.
  • Identify and drive process optimization opportunities in development.
  • Design solutions with embedded security controls to mitigate threats.
  • Collaborate on programming and build activities, ensuring adherence to standards.
  • Engage in prototyping as a team activity, establishing and iterating design patterns.
  • Demonstrate understanding of service support and systems design.
  • Define integration builds and coordinate testing activities across systems.
  • Champion user research to prioritize user needs and recommend appropriate tools.
  • Conduct investigations and tests of software systems to enhance performance.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to less experienced personnel.

Key Skills:

  • Active SC Clearance.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, Jenkins, and AWS in the last 2 years.
  • Background in automating application deployment and configuration management.
  • Familiarity with automation/configuration management tools like RedHat, Puppet, Chef, Ansible.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IAC) technologies such as CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • Strong Linux Sysadmin skills.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker & Kubernetes).
  • Good understanding of internet communication concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP).
  • Experience deploying Continuous Integration solutions.
  • Awareness of security considerations in web application deployment.
  • Experience with monitoring/logging tools (ELK, Prometheus/Grafana).
  • Strong AWS knowledge (EC2, EKS, RDS, Aurora, networking, cost management).
