Summary: The Design System QA Engineer will be integral to a dedicated team focused on developing and maintaining foundational components, tokens, and patterns for the organization. This role involves designing and executing test strategies to ensure the robustness, accessibility, and compliance of these components. The position offers remote working flexibility, with occasional meetings at the office in Waterside. The contract is rolling until June 2026, with an in-scope IR35 status.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the testing strategy for Design System components including regression, accessibility, and visual testing.
- Build and maintain automated test suites across platforms.
- Implement and monitor CI/CD pipelines that validate every design system release.
- Partner with developers and designers to write testable components and define test-driven workflows.
- Conduct manual exploratory testing where automation isn’t sufficient, especially for accessibility, responsiveness, and edge cases.
- Perform cross-browser and cross-device testing to ensure consistent behavior across supported environments.
- Develop visual regression testing pipelines using tools like Percy, Chromatic, or Storybook Addons.
- Test for accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA) using tools such as axe, Lighthouse, and screen readers.
- Collaborate across product, platform, content, and accessibility teams to embed quality at every level of the system lifecycle.
Key Skills:
- Solid understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1/2.2) and how to test for compliance.
- Experience building & supporting various automated testing approaches: unit testing, visual/snapshot testing, accessibility testing, performance testing & cross-platform testing.
- Proficiency with test frameworks and tools like Jest, Playwright, React Testing Library, Cypress, Selenium.
- Familiarity with design systems and Storybook workflows; able to test components in isolation and in context.
- Detail-oriented with strong debugging skills and a mindset for preventing regressions.
- Strong communication and writing skills.

About the role
As a Design System Quality Engineer you will play a key role in a dedicated Design System team responsible for building and maintaining foundational component, tokens and patterns used across our organisation. In this role, you will design and execute test strategies that ensure components are robust, accessible & 508 compliant, and ready for use.

Shifts: Monday – Friday (37.5 hours per week)

This role provides a remote working access from the comforts of your own home and only going to our state-of-the-art office in Waterside when there is a meeting.
