Summary: The Design Engineer will lead the mechanical hardware design and delivery of instrumentation and control cabinets for nuclear power plants. This role involves defining hardware requirements, designing components, collaborating with engineers, and testing prototypes. The engineer will also work with suppliers to ensure compliance with system requirements and assist in developing technical manuals. Effective communication with customers and management is essential for achieving cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the mechanical hardware design and delivery of instrumentation and control cabinets and consoles for nuclear power plants
  • Define mechanical hardware requirements for new mechanical components
  • Design mechanical hardware components, such as cabinets, consoles, brackets, enclosures, test fixtures, and other related hardware
  • Collaborate with system engineers and electrical hardware engineers to model the system and generate electromechanical drawings
  • Test mechanical hardware prototypes for fit-up; analyze and document the results
  • Work with sub-tier suppliers to ensure that procured components meet the system requirements
  • Assist in the structural analysis to ensure successful equipment qualification
  • Assist in the development of the Maintenance and Troubleshooting Technical Manual
  • Communicate with the customer and internal management as a technical expert to achieve cost effective, technically compliant solutions

Job Description:
• Lead the mechanical hardware design and delivery of instrumentation and control cabinets and consoles for nuclear power plants
• Define mechanical hardware requirements for new mechanical components
• Design mechanical hardware components, such as cabinets, consoles, brackets, enclosures, test fixtures, and other related hardware:
o Cabinet layout
o Mechanical assembly drawings
o Front Panel designs
o Wiring diagrams and associated documentation for internal cabinet wiring
o Internal cabinet wire routing
o Harness board drawings - as required
o Installation drawings and instruction
• Collaborate with system engineers and electrical hardware engineers to model the system and generate electromechanical drawings
• Test mechanical hardware prototypes for fit-up; analyze and document the results
• Work with sub-tier suppliers (through supply chain) to ensure that procured components meet the system requirements.
• Assist in the structural analysis to ensure successful equipment qualification.
