Summary: The role of DB2 DBA LUW involves managing and optimizing DB2 LUW database instances across various platforms, with a focus on performance tuning, backup and recovery, and high availability configurations. The position requires collaboration with application developers and the automation of tasks through scripting. This is a remote position based in the USA, classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and upgrade DB2 LUW database instances on Linux, Unix, or Windows platforms.
- Monitor database performance, conduct tuning, and optimize queries and indexing strategies.
- Perform database backups, restores, and recovery operations using DB2 utilities (e.g., db2backup, db2restore).
- Set up and maintain HADR (High Availability Disaster Recovery) and TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) configurations.
- Create and manage database users, roles, and permissions for data security.
- Maintain and troubleshoot physical and logical database structures, including tablespaces, buffer pools, logs, and storage.
- Automate tasks using shell scripting, Python, or Perl.
- Collaborate with application developers for query optimization and provide production support.
- Conduct patching and version upgrades with minimal downtime.
- Document procedures, configurations, and standards.
Key Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM DB2 LUW (v10.x/v11.x/v12.x).
- Proficient in SQL, PL/SQL, and UNIX/Linux shell scripting.
- Experience with DB2 Data Studio, db2pd, db2top, and monitoring tools.
- Knowledge of backup strategies, log shipping, mirroring, and clustering.
- Experience with data replication tools like Q Replication or CDC is a plus.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) for DB2 deployments is desirable.
- Understanding of DevOps and CI/CD in database environments is a plus.
