Summary: The Database Engineer role is a fully remote position focused on the design, administration, and optimization of Oracle 19c databases. Key responsibilities include ensuring high availability, implementing disaster recovery strategies, and providing mentorship to junior staff. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and participation in on-call support. Candidates should have extensive experience in database management and a strong understanding of compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database engineering and administration: Design, build, configure, and maintain Oracle 19c databases in production and non-production environments.
- High availability and disaster recovery: Implement, configure, and manage Oracle Data Guard to ensure high availability, data protection, and disaster recovery. Perform failover and switchover tests.
- Performance tuning: Conduct advanced performance analysis and tuning of Oracle databases and complex PL/SQL code to optimize query execution and system efficiency.
- Database scripting and automation: Develop, maintain, and execute PL/SQL scripts, stored procedures, functions, and packages to support application development and automate database management tasks.
- Backup and recovery: Design, implement, and manage robust backup and recovery strategies using Oracle RMAN to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime. Knowledge of Dell Networker/DPS very desirable.
- Security and compliance: Implement and enforce database security best practices, including access control, auditing, and compliance with company policies and federal regulatory standards (NERC-CIP).
- Mentorship and collaboration: Work closely with application development, IT operations, and other cross-functional teams. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior database administrators.
- Troubleshooting and support: Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution of database-related incidents. Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation as required.
- Attends business meetings, and collaborates with ISO colleagues to develop "best practices" policies and procedures, and to identify and resolve issues to help create a flexible and efficient organization.
Key Skills:
- 3-5 or more years related experience in Oracle database administration as a developer and/or administrator.
- Experience working in corporate information technology, including development, engineering, security, or administration.
- Extensive systems knowledge working in a highly complex environment.
- Oracle DBA Certification preferred; certifications in any other database platform desirable.
- Desirable experience with Cassandra RDBMS, Postgres RDBMS, LDAP, Oracle Transparent Application Failover, PowerShell scripting, and administration of Block and/or NFS Filesystems.
- Familiarity with NERC-CIP compliance standards.
