Summary: The Data Steward role focuses on ensuring data quality and governance within the Data Warehouse and Databricks environments. The position involves maintaining metadata, enforcing best practices, and collaborating with business and technical teams to enhance data integrity. The Data Steward will also monitor data accuracy and compliance with organizational standards while recommending improvements. This role is remote and classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure datasets in the Data Warehouse and Databricks meet governance and quality standards.
- Maintain metadata and lineage in VAULTIS.
- Partner with DT and business process owners to enforce best practices ownership, traceability, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor data accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and consistency.
- Identify data issues and coordinate corrections with business or IT teams.
- Implement validation rules and support automated quality checks (DQM).
- Maintain data definitions, lineage, and ownership in governance tools (e.g., Axon, Informatica, Collibra, VAULTIS).
- Ensure metadata is up to date, standardized, and compliant with naming conventions.
- Ensure compliance with organizational data governance standards.
- Work with Data Owners and Data Governance Teams to define and apply data policies.
- Participate in governance councils or CORE process reviews.
- Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and data engineers.
- Help translate business requirements into clear data definitions and processes.
- Support audits, root cause analysis, and data lineage tracking.
- Recommend process or tool improvements to strengthen data integrity.
- Track recurring data issues and ensure they are addressed at the source.
Key Skills:
- SQL and PBI knowledge
- Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, VAULTIS).
- Familiarity with data management tools (Axon, EDC, Informatica, Collibra, Power BI, SQL, Databricks).
- Solid understanding of data modeling, lineage, and metadata management.
- Analytical and communication skills to work across business and technical teams.
- Attention to detail, documentation discipline, and process orientation.
- 3-5 years in data analysis, data governance, or information management.
- Proven track record of supporting enterprise data initiatives.
