Summary: The Data Science Expert – AI Content Specialist role involves leveraging expertise in machine learning and data science to enhance AI models through auditing, designing challenges, and providing solutions. This remote contractor position allows for flexible hours and focuses on high-impact contributions to AI research. Candidates will work independently while collaborating with leading AI research labs to refine AI reasoning and document model weaknesses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design Advanced Challenges — Create complex, domain-specific data science problems spanning hyperparameter optimization, Bayesian inference, cross-validation strategies, dimensionality reduction, and more
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions including Python/R scripts, SQL queries, and mathematical derivations that serve as authoritative reference answers
- Audit AI-Generated Code — Evaluate model outputs using libraries like Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow for correctness, efficiency, and best practices
- Refine AI Reasoning — Identify logical flaws such as data leakage, overfitting, or improper handling of imbalanced datasets, and provide structured feedback to strengthen how models think
- Document Failure Modes — Systematically probe model weaknesses across areas like statistical inference, neural network architectures, and data engineering pipelines
Key Skills:
- Holds or is pursuing a Master's or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field
- Strong foundations in supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, big data technologies (Spark/Hadoop), or NLP
- Able to communicate complex algorithmic and statistical concepts clearly in writing
- Highly precise when reviewing code syntax, mathematical notation, and statistical conclusions
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently and asynchronously
- No prior AI or annotation experience required
- Experience with data annotation, data quality, or evaluation systems (nice to have)
- Familiarity with production-level data science workflows such as MLOps or CI/CD for models (nice to have)
- Background in technical writing or academic research (nice to have)
