Summary: The role of Data Protection Officer and Team Leader involves overseeing data protection compliance and managing an Information Governance Team within a local authority in the Midlands. This position is remote and is expected to be a long-term locum role. The successful candidate will provide expert advice on data protection obligations and manage communications with regulatory bodies. Experience in a senior data protection role, particularly within the public sector, is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Statutory Data Protection Officer
- Managing Information Governance Team, made up of 5 officers
- Managing the Social Care Data Protection team, made up of 5 officers
- Advising the senior management and staff on data protection obligations, risks, and best practices
- Conducting and reviewing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and other risk assessments
- Monitoring compliance with data protection laws and internal policies through audits and regular reviews
- Acting as the primary point of contact for supervisory authorities (e.g. the ICO) and managing communications with regulators, senior executives and politicians
Key Skills:
- Experience managing information governance officers
- Expert knowledge of UK GDPR, EU GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, PECR, and wider global privacy regulations
- Demonstrable experience in a senior data protection, privacy, compliance, or legal role, ideally in a public sector organisation

Sellick Partnership is delighted to be supporting a local authority in the Midlands with the recruitment of a locum Data Protection Officer and Team Leader. The role can be worked on an entirely remote working basis and is likely to be a long-term locum position.
The Data Protection Officer and Team Leader role will be responsible for matters including, but not limited to:
- Statutory Data Protection Officer
- Managing Information Governance Team, made up of 5 officers
- Managing the Social Care Data Protection team, made up of 5 officers
- Advising the senior management and staff on data protection obligations, risks, and best practices
- Conducting and reviewing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and other risk assessments
- Monitoring compliance with data protection laws and internal policies through audits and regular reviews
- Acting as the primary point of contact for supervisory authorities (e.g. the ICO) and managing communications with regulators, senior executives and politicians
The current post holder is also a qualified Solicitor; whilst this is not a requirement of the post, it would be beneficial. They are ideally looking for someone who can work on a full-time basis but 4 days would be considered. Other experience and qualifications:
