Summary: The Data Migration DB Specialist will collaborate with teams to identify and resolve code and data-related issues during the migration from mainframe technologies to RDBMS structures. This role involves validating customer data, analyzing database performance, and providing feedback on tool capabilities. The specialist will leverage extensive experience in data systems modernization and communicate effectively with clients throughout the migration process. The position requires a strong background in relational databases and mainframe systems, with a focus on delivering solutions for large international clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with mainframe migration teams to find solutions to identify code and data related bugs and issues
  • Work within a team focused on converting database structures and application data from mainframe technologies (Adabas, IMS, IDMS, VSAM, DB2 zOS) to RDBMS structures in SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and others for large international clients
  • Work within a team to build/advise solutions for mainframe file migrations and transformation from mainframe ebcdic to ascii code sets.
  • Clearly define the root cause of problems using defect reporting tools
  • Recognize patterns in defects related to the data conversion, and at times, code conversion processes.
  • Validate customer data in the destination systems
  • Provide clear descriptions and feedback on tool capabilities for the Research and Development team to continue to enhance toolset
  • Complete database performance analysis, and tune runtime and data loading performance where applicable
  • Collaborate with other data migration specialists on issues encountered
  • Configure and populate relational databases on Linux/Windows or in the Cloud
  • Leverage your experience across various cloud DBMS services, operations, interfaces and installations to compare and recommend implementation solutions
  • Use your comprehensive communications skills to interface with clients at all levels and coordinate the receipt and conversion of data across projects approached in a multi-phasal pattern.

Key Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 10+ years expert experience with relational and transactional languages as a DBA (DDL, DML, TCL, etc.)
  • 4+ years experience modernizing mainframe data systems
  • Experience with both Windows and Linux
  • Understanding of z/OS and/or Unisys based database systems
  • Understanding of IMS, VSAM, JCL, COBOL and complexities of data types and record mapping
  • Experience with DB2 ZOS catalog data and using it to generate automated solutions.
  • Familiarity with SQL language structures and performance tuning
  • Experience with scripting languages (Powershell, bash, Python, etc.)
