Summary: The Data Governance Specialist role involves shaping the governance and compliance framework for a secure, cross-organisational data-sharing platform within the UK Government. The position requires defining governance frameworks, establishing data standards, and ensuring compliance with UK data protection legislation. The role demands collaboration with various stakeholders to embed best practices in a complex digital transformation programme. The contract is for an initial duration of 6 months, with a remote working arrangement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define governance frameworks, data ownership, and stewardship models.
- Establish data standards and ensure compliance with UK data protection legislation.
- Collaborate with business, technical, and security stakeholders.
- Embed best practices across a complex digital transformation programme.
Key Skills:
- Strong commercial experience in Data Governance.
- Experience designing governance frameworks, policies, and operating models.
- Knowledge of UK GDPR, DPA 2018, DPIAs, and government security standards.
- Experience with cross-organisational data sharing and metadata governance.
- Understanding of attribute/policy-based access control (ABAC/PBAC).
- Strong stakeholder management and workshop facilitation skills.

Data Governance Specialist (within UK Government) Outside IR35 £550-£600 per day Remote Start ASAP 6 months initial contract SR2 is supporting a consultancy delivering a major government data programme and is looking for an experienced Data Governance Specialist to help shape the governance and compliance framework for a secure, cross-organisational data-sharing platform. You'll define governance frameworks, data ownership and stewardship models, establish data standards, and ensure compliance with UK data protection legislation and government security guidance. Working closely with business, technical and security stakeholders, you'll help embed best practice across a complex digital transformation programme.
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience in Data Governance.
- Experience designing governance frameworks, policies and operating models.
- Knowledge of UK GDPR, DPA 2018, DPIAs and government security standards (NCSC, GovAssure, Technology Code of Practice).
- Experience with cross-organisational data sharing, data ownership and metadata governance.
- Understanding of attribute/policy-based access control (ABAC/PBAC).
- Strong stakeholder management and workshop facilitation skills.
