We're looking for an experienced Data Engineer (contract) to provide short-term cover. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role, stepping in to support several business-critical projects.
You'll work through a prioritised backlog of well-scoped engineering tasks within a Databricks on Azure environment, requiring minimal handholding and little deep business context to get moving. You'll work closely with the client's existing Data Engineer as your main day-to-day point of contact, with reporting into the Head of Data. This is a remote role, with the expectation of getting on-site in London once or twice a month.
Key responsibilities:
- Build, maintain and optimise data pipelines within Databricks on Azure.
- Pick up and deliver against an existing, prioritised list of data engineering tasks.
- Work independently on well-defined technical tasks with limited business context required.
- Collaborate closely with the existing Data Engineer and report progress to the Head of Data.
- Support wider data projects and initiatives as priorities evolve.
Key skills:
- Strong, demonstrable experience with Databricks and the Azure data stack.
- Solid general data engineering fundamentals (pipeline design, data modelling, orchestration, performance/cost optimisation, testing).
- Able to work autonomously and get up to speed quickly with minimal onboarding.
- Strong communicator, easy to work with day-to-day - team fit is important given the close daily collaboration required.
- Financial services/wealth management experience is a plus but not essential.
