Summary: The Data Center Infrastructure Architect (AI Thermal & Power) role involves leading the design and implementation of advanced cooling solutions for high-density AI workloads. This position requires expertise in thermal management and physical installations, particularly in liquid cooling technologies. The architect will evaluate client strategies and oversee the physical build-out of data centers to support significant capacity scaling. This is a 6-month remote contract with potential for extension or conversion to a full-time role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical assessment and implementation of advanced cooling solutions (liquid-to-chip, RDHx, etc.) to ensure facility readiness for 100+MW AI workloads.
- Advise on the complexities of DC build-outs specifically tailored for AI, identifying potential bottlenecks in physical space, airflow, and thermal management.
- Evaluate and refine client roadmaps for massive capacity scaling, ensuring that the physical mechanical plant can support the theoretical power draw.
- Act as the lead consultant in identifying where colocation partners' offerings meet—or fail to meet—the cooling demands of high-density AI clusters.
- Work alongside senior leadership to provide the technical depth required to close major infrastructure deals and validate delivery timelines.
Key Skills:
- Deep, hands-on technical proficiency in the full spectrum of liquid cooling technologies, specifically single-phase, dual-phase, rear-door heat exchangers (RDHx), and closed-loop/in-rack systems.
- Demonstrated experience managing the unique physical installation requirements of AI/HPC hardware, specifically regarding weight distribution, rack-level power density, and heat dissipation.
- Direct professional history working for or extensively with major providers like Digital Realty, Equinix, or Switch; understanding their specific facility limitations regarding high-density liquid cooling support.
- Proven background as an MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) Engineer within critical environments, with specific expertise in thermodynamic fluid dynamics and hot spot mitigation.
- Practical, hands-on experience with Vertiv and Schneider Electric power and cooling infrastructure is mandatory.

Our client is a global professional services firm currently leading high-stakes initiatives for some of the world’s most ambitious AI infrastructure projects. As enterprises race to deploy high-density GPU clusters, our client provides the technical bridge between massive capital investment and the physical reality of the data center floor. They are seeking a senior technical authority to augment their team for a 6-month project focused on scaling capacity to 100+MW and beyond.
In this role, you will be the primary subject matter expert for AI-specific thermal management and physical installations. This position requires a deep understanding of the physical constraints of deploying AI hardware at scale. You will evaluate client strategies, identify facility limitations, and design the complex liquid cooling architectures, including RDHx, single/dual-phase, and in-rack loops, necessary to support high-density environments and ensure operational stability.
Requirements
- Advanced Thermal Mastery: Deep, hands-on technical proficiency in the full spectrum of liquid cooling technologies, specifically single-phase, dual-phase, rear-door heat exchangers (RDHx), and closed-loop/in-rack systems.
- AI Physical Install Experience: Demonstrated experience managing the unique physical installation requirements of AI/HPC hardware, specifically regarding weight distribution, rack-level power density, and heat dissipation.
- Colocation Authority: Direct professional history working for or extensively with major providers like Digital Realty, Equinix, or Switch; you must understand their specific facility limitations regarding high-density liquid cooling support.
- MEP Engineering Core: Proven background as an MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) Engineer within critical environments, with specific expertise in thermodynamic fluid dynamics and hot spot mitigation.
- Vendor Systems Expertise: Practical, hands-on experience with Vertiv and Schneider Electric power and cooling infrastructure is mandatory.
Responsibilities
- Thermal Architecture Design: Lead the technical assessment and implementation of advanced cooling solutions (liquid-to-chip, RDHx, etc.) to ensure facility readiness for 100+MW AI workloads.
- Physical Build-out Oversight: Advise on the complexities of DC build-outs specifically tailored for AI, identifying potential bottlenecks in physical space, airflow, and thermal management.
- Strategic Capacity Review: Evaluate and refine client roadmaps for massive capacity scaling, ensuring that the physical mechanical plant can support the theoretical power draw.
- Colocation Advisory: Act as the lead consultant in identifying where colocation partners' offerings meet—or fail to meet—the cooling demands of high-density AI clusters.
- RFP & Pursuit Support: Work alongside senior leadership to provide the technical depth required to close major infrastructure deals and validate delivery timelines.
This is a 6-month contract position with a flexible pay rate designed for a senior-level expert. While the initial engagement is project-based, there is a possibility of conversion to a full-time role depending on project success and firm requirements, though not guaranteed. The role offers a hybrid work model, combining remote strategic work with necessary site visits to critical facilities.
