Summary: The Data Architect role involves shaping and evolving data architecture and analytics platforms within a complex IT landscape for a leading facilities services provider in the UK. The position requires collaboration with various teams to ensure data solutions are scalable and aligned with business priorities. The Data Architect will influence how data supports operational insights and decision-making across the organization. This is a fixed-term contract position based in London, with remote work options available nationwide.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the definition and ongoing evolution of the UK data architecture, aligned to group standards and business priorities.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of a hub-and-spoke data architecture alongside senior architects and engineering teams.
- Produce and maintain logical and physical data architecture artefacts, including diagrams, data flows and design documentation.
- Review data solution designs and provide architectural guidance to ensure consistency, scalability and maintainability.
- Work closely with BI developers and data engineers to ensure designs are practical and effectively delivered.
- Support the use of Microsoft SQL Server, Azure data services and Azure Databricks within agreed architectural patterns.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across IT and business functions to understand data requirements and translate these into clear data designs.
- Support the application of data governance, security and access control principles in line with organisational standards.
Key Skills:
- Experience in a data-focused role such as Data Architect, Senior Data Developer, BI Architect or similar.
- Practical experience with the Microsoft data stack, including SQL Server, Azure data services and Azure Databricks (or equivalent Spark-based platforms).
- Experience working closely with BI and data engineering teams in delivery-focused environments.
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation and data architecture diagrams.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at varying levels of technical understanding.
