Role: Data Architect / Data Governance
Defines how the platform should work. This role owns architecture direction, governance, and the assessment work that shapes the enterprise roadmap.
Responsibilities
- Design the target-state data architecture for the platform, including integration patterns for enterprise and operational technology (OT) systems.
- Build the governance framework: RBAC model, data classification taxonomy for a regulated utility, catalog and metadata standards, and change management process.
- Author design standards — medallion architecture specification, naming conventions, data quality patterns, and testing approach.
- Gather AMI analytics requirements through interviews across operations, engineering, and regulatory groups; translate them into architecture requirements.
- Assess the current technology stack to identify gaps, redundancies, and recommended additions; contribute to investment sizing.
- Produce architecture documentation and decision records that will outlast the engagement.
Required Experience
- Enterprise data architecture experience, including reference architecture and integration pattern design.
- Microsoft Fabric or comparable modern lakehouse platform design experience.
- Practical data governance implementation — access models, classification, cataloging, stewardship (Microsoft Purview or equivalent).
- Requirements gathering and stakeholder facilitation with both business and technical groups.
- Strong written communication; able to produce documentation an executive audience can read.
Preferred
- AMI, SCADA, or other OT data experience in a utility.
- Familiarity with CIM (Common Information Model).
- Experience contributing to regulatory or compliance-driven data programs.
