Contract Web Developer - React - £400pd - Remote - 6 Months
We are looking for a senior web engineer who can join an existing product team and immediately help deliver a substantial update to a live application.
This is a six-month remote gig for the right person.
You are someone who already writes production-quality front-end software with little supervision and cares about how the work lands with users, designers, and other engineers.
You will not be brought in to tidy tickets at the edges.
You will work inside the current codebase to ship a large, coherent update: reusable, maintainable, and testable interfaces that stay performant, accessible, and secure as the product grows.
You will collaborate with product, design, and engineering to refine scope, break work into tasks that can move through sprints, and keep the delivery honest.
You will take part in scrum ceremonies and code reviews, not as ceremony for its own sake, but to uphold standards and keep the codebase structured and efficient.
The stack is TypeScript, and React, with design systems and component libraries as first-class tools rather than afterthoughts.
You will integrate with REST APIs and write automated tests; the team uses Jest and Playwright today and wants that practice to deepen.
Senior judgement matters here: knowing when a component belongs in the system, when a shortcut will cost more later, and how to raise quality without stalling a release.
If you take satisfaction in clean front-end architecture, tight collaboration across disciplines, and leaving a web application better structured than you found it, this contract is built for that kind of engineer.
